I have 39's on my other softail and 36's on heritage in my sig. I love Samson's true dual but you should do you. However I do not think Samson still makes the 39's.

Default Samson

If you like the look of the Samson 39 inch go for it and don't worry about scraping them it come with the territory there are a few things you can do to help . When going down a drive way lift your *** and take the weight off it helps and when you do the install make sure you lift every thing up And then tighten. Also you can get the newer style 39s with the removal fishtails and baffles this way if you really beat them up two screws and you can replace them. I had a set of Vance and Hines when they fist came out with there fish tails they are more like a large mouth bass than a fish tale take a good look at them and I say large mouth bass . Good luck go with you gut feeling and do not look back.

I too think your girls bike is better looking. That is something you are going to have to remedy.
I agree with kitb that 28 1/2's are the perfect length. That is what is on my Heritage. To me, 39's are just too long. They make the bike look a wheelbarrow. Ultimately, you have to go with YOUR gut and desire.

Thanks everybody. Maybe I'll just hold off this winter and squirrel away the extra $$ for Sturgis 2015. Yes, we booked the cabin Jan of 2014 to make sure we'd get one.
That or start amassing the parts to make it a bagger. There's SOO many ideas running rampant in my skull.
I haven't seen another bike around with the same pipes I've got in chrome, 2 in black but no others in chrome so that's kinda cool.
As far as the gf's bike being prettier, YES it is. She bought it last fall. It's an '09 she found it for sale in '13 with 124miles showing. A woman bought it, rode it once, and decided she'd rather be a passenger. The gf has done most of the mod's herself. She doesn't ride the miles I do per year 'cause she works fly in camp jobs whereas I get to ride 20miles each way most days so mine has the road miles.

Proraptor-there's no one here running Cholo's that I've seen, but the town I live 20 miles out of only has a population of 5,500 so..........

Chaggy, yes. I drag on just about every corner 'cause I lay it over like a freakin' sport bike. Lol. As far as the laydown plate, I build them. Our plates here in Alberta are bigger than the average bike plate by 1" in both directions.

With Cholos you would need to lower the front an inch or so, and install Shotgun Shocks to control height. and the Cholos look is the best.

$2000 for the Shotgun, $1500 for the exhaust=forget it.
I'd rather dump that into engine work.....gear drive, cams, etc.
Thanks all

Glad we can help,
But on the numbers, Shotgun has not sold for 2000 ever , brand new for forum members is 1200, often members who upgrade to touring bikes (which is often) sell them here under 1000, The Cholos are around 750$ new and can be had used as well for under 500% so you will be looking at under 2000$ including professional installation (those who can install this stuff themselves save a good 300-400$.

But of course Engine upgrades are always an option and in some cases a Must (in pre 2007 cam chain tensioner situations).
