Default One more dump question and I'll be set

I'm removing and replacing my Outer Primary Cover, Side Trans Cover and Cam Cover.

I went with SYN3 on my service - so below is my understanding - is it correct?

Refill Primary with Syn3 through the derby
Refill what is lost from side trans cover with SYN 3 at the hole just above it?
Refill what is lost from the cam cover with Syn 3 into the main oil tank - under dip stick

does that look right, SYN3 in all three areas - and is that where you refill for lost fluid from the trans cover and cam cover?

Your question scares me! Yes it is "possible" to have Syn3 in all the holes. Few people do that anymore. Your questions as to where to fill is worrying me plenty. These are not just cosmetic covers that you are replacing. The "Side Trans Cover" if I understand correctly what you are talking about is not a real simple task to replace. You need to remove the clutch cable. Not a real tough job but I wouldn't expect you questioning where to pour the oil is all I mean.

Actually if you go synthetic, it's extremely common to use Syn3 in all 3 holes. My question was probably not asked correctly.

Mike, to answer your questions, yes you have it right. I too run Syn3 in all 3 holes and have changed the exact covers you are.

Really? What year Softail doesn't fill the trans oil in the plug on top of the tranny, the oil in the oil tank, and the primary through the derby? I didn't know that had ever changed?

Mikeduke108,

Highly recommend you purchase a Harley service manual. Roughly 60 bucks from any dealer. It will be the best money you'll spend on your bike.
