Either too much oil.

It's building pressure due to a blocked/clogged up oil breather.

Or simply the rubber around the dipstick had softened and doesn't seal tight enough.

If it doesn't puke oil with the dip stick popping out, I would suspect the clogged oil breather....

If they dont fit tite they will come out. The HD temp gauge ones really fit like crap.
If it's loose, go to an auto parts store and find an"O" ring that will make it fit tite.

I had the same problem with my Shovelhead when the rubber shrank up and caused the dipstick to get loose in the oil tank. Here's how I fixed it. I cut a short piece of copper water line and pushed it up inside the rubber stopper. It now fits tightly in the tank and doesn't pop out when starting the bike. Not sure if the stopper is the same size on your bike or not, but it may be worth looking into. Cheap and easy fix.
