Default Setting up a softtail for 2-up riding.

So me and the wife want to ride together more (as in a lot more)...

We are not light people and would exceed the stock weight limits of the Fatboy Lo with riders and gear.

I have a sissy bar and seat back, rack, windshield and stock appointments for rear pillion and pegs.

Other than the obvious answer of stop being a fat@$$...what can we do to make the bike more 2-up friendly?

Thanks for the help!

Tire pressures are slightly higher for riding double. I'll usually add a couple 4-5 pounds to the back when my lady is riding, but we travel light.

Careful getting too far north of the max load; suspension travel and gravity centers play big parts in braking and cornering... you don't wanna wreck just so you didn't have to trade for a FL or upgrade your rear shocks.

If you end up bottoming out the stock shocks at their stiffest setting, there are aftermarket shocks (Progressive for instance) with stiffer springs.

Aside from that, I don't see a problem.

Thanks.

I went and checked out the RK and SGS...but like my FIRST Harley a lot.

Looks like I may as well get some 422's. At max setting, we bottom out on big dips. And some of the interstate transitions are bone jarring for a single rider...so I don't want to buck my wife off at 75 MPH. If the 422's don't do it...will trade the Fatboy in for a street glide special.

You could try Legend Air Ride also - they claim to "never" bottom out. Get your checkbook ready though... they're mighty proud of their product.

I like the RK...but the damn passenger floorboards are all up in my calves when stopped. SGS pegs clear much better. Is there a reach set?

Thanks.

Floorboards for the passenger, Progressive shocks 1" taller and the best investment would be a Mustang Vintage Wide Tour seat.
