I had HD Syn 3 put in at the 10k service on my 05 FLSTSCI.
What valve clatter now! Runs 5-15* cooler.
I keep hearing that the right grades in Amsoil makes the valve clatter much less.
I'm trying it next.

I use Amsoil in all three holes. Works for me.

Cheers!

I use red line products and have been happy with them.

IMO, it doesn't matter what oil you use as long as it is one that is spec'ed for the hole you are putting it in and you change it when it needs changed.

I doubt if very few people will ever wear out a properly serviced engine, regardless of what brand was put in it.
Agreed, if you change it on a regular basis, any quality oil is fine.

Excellent comment. Syn vs. mineral is a huge, and hotly debated topic no matter what engine forum you hang in. Me personally see absolutely NO advantage to swapping to high dollar techno synthetics. My comment is if youhave engine issues, I guarantee it wasn't because you were running mineral oil instead of a synthetic. For the average engine pleasure rider synthetics are a unnessary escillated cost. For the performance guys, or guys who reallybeat the pi$$ out of thier engines, well nowthey need to think synthetic. For the other 80% of us. Use the recommended spec lubrication, change it religiously at the suggested intervals, and you engine will most likely out last you.

Amsoil in motor and primary, Redline extreme synthetic gear lube in trans. I just replaced my cam tensioners I think they would have made it to 50k, now has 33k.

I was told by my dealer tech that if you use synthetic, you can put the same oil in all 3 holes. I go with Amsoil 20-50W (in Canada). I was told it's better than H-D.

2003 Heritage Classic, silver & black. SE slip-ons. 44k km & running strong. Love it.

I agree, but if one of the afore mentioned products (amsoil,mobile1, redline) will make my bike run any cooler, then it's worth it. It gets hot here in the summer. Also, it seems that at least mobile1 is $1 - $2 cheaper per quart here than Syn 3. Not sure about the other brands. However I am running Syn 3 currently and have no issues.
