Full Exhaust Install Tips
Hey everyone,
I went ahead and ordered the Bassani FireFlight exhaust for my 2013 Slim. It is due to arrive tomorrow thanks to the speedy service of Dennis Kirk.
Last year, I installed slip-ons with no issue. How much different will it be installing a full system? I went to the dealer today to get a service manual, but go figure, they had none left in stock. I plan on going ahead with the install anyways.
I bought new port gaskets and plan on reusing the stock flanges as they only have 1,700 miles on them. I also had to get O2 plug adapters for the Basanni pipes. The flange nuts do not look too hard to get to from what I can see.
Any other tips or advice?

Swapping pipes is an easy task. Don't be intimidated. Here are a few points:
(1) Always install new gaskets.
(2) The Header Flange is held in place by a large "C" Clip. Be careful not to distort this clip when swapping the flanges to another set of pipes. I normally purchase and install new flanges on pipes just so that the take-off's retain flanges and remain ready to bolt on.
(3) Loosely install all nuts and bolts and properly position the pipes prior to final torquing. When final torquing, start at the header flange and work rearward.
(4) Do Not over torque the header flange nuts.
(5) Whip off all dirt and finger prints from the pipes before firing up the bike. Oil and finger prints can burn-in to the finish during the initial start up.

..and grab a tube of Permatex Copper from the auto parts store.
It not only seals better and is heat resistant, but that little bit of lube will make installing the new gaskets a LOT easier.
It doesn't take much - just a light film inside and out...
..and use a 1/4" ratchet with a 6" extension and a swivel joint to get at those rear nuts...

Well, I got through about 75% of the install today. Removing the stock headers were not too bad, except for the front O2 sensor. Not until after I cursed a dozen times trying to get a wrench in to remove it did I realize that I could unplug the sensor.
The UPS man came pretty late today and I only had about an hour to start the new install before I had to stop and get ready for work. Everything is mounted and now tomorrow I just have to torque everything down and put the heat shields on.
Pictures to follow tomorrow!
