still doesn't run like it oughta
follow up on a post from 1/23/14. Dealership called and said my 97 flstc was ready. they had changed the crank and flywheels, rejetted the new carb and put a vance&hines exhaust on it and did several dyno runs. said it ran great. on the flat it did run well but as soon as I hit a grade in it wouldn't make 70 mph. then it cut out like it was out of gas. backed off throttle and it picked up again. out of gas? switched to reserve and turned around. going down hill it ran great. took it back to the dealership. mech took it for a ride and had the same problems. he pulled float bowl and said everything looked good. put some gas in and took it for another ride.. said it runs great now. I rode it again. same problems. Anybody have any ideas?

Take it back to the dealer. You paid for the service, so you deserve quality work. If they don't want to fix their problems, you have a few options.
1. Call the BBB
2. Contact a local new station. One letter from them to the dealer will have the dealer making things right with you.

All of the above are good. If you have the moco petcock with its vacuum assisted operation then I would start there. There was a blockage to a vent in my carb'd road glide and I bought a two way valve which is south of the gas tank actually on the rear splash guard. This was barely operable and would be fine at RPM s less tnan 2500.
Cheap wojld be to find the valve and change it. Dumb & cheap would be to empty tanks then pull petcock and remove the diaphragm.
Expensive would be to go for a Pingel petcock. Ch-8611. I think that is the model for your bike. It is hexagonal and the 90* angle of the gasoline would clear everything and the CH means chrome.
Hope this helps but the other posts are a good start too. Maybe your petcock screen is merely jammed up after 17 years????

I had changed fuel filter and fluids before taking the bike in. There was just a little crud on the screen. Bike ran fine on the 70 mile trip to the dealer. hasn't run right since. asked about the vacuum petcock. mechanic said that the symptoms are different. Leathered up I am pushing 300# the mechanic 165 but that shouldn't make any difference should it. Starting to wonder if it is maybe something electrical.
