Hello folks! I'm usually over on the sportster forum, but my girlfriend is considering a softail. She prefers pegs to floorboards, but the breakout is the only model with pegs (she's currently leaning towards either a fatboy lo or a softail slim).

What options (if any) are there to remove floorboards and go with traditional pegs?

I just did the opposite on a bike I am working on. The peg mounts on my 08 night train were interchangeable with an 08 fatboy floorboard mounts. you would have to get down and compare the two mounts and find a model that has pegs that will interchange with your boards.

 

Yeah, I expect the opposite swap is more common... but she's pretty decided that she would prefer pegs. Maybe that'll make it easy for her to trade with someone if/when she finds out what fits!

Harley makes a kit to swap out boards for pegs. Both boards and pegs use the same frame mounts

 

I prefer the look of pegs, but having had boards now for nearly a year, I like the flexibility in foot positioning I get. I wouldn't get much extra lean angle by switching to pegs because of the engine guard, so there doesn't seem much point to me other than for looks alone. YMMV, especially if you have longer legs.

 

Mine came with $$$ chrome passenger boards. IMHO They look ugly when folded up.

Look for a Night Train, great looking bike and stock with pegs.

 

Swapping to pegs is easy. I personally hate floorboards and switching to pegs would be my first mod. Don't let floorboards coming on a bike determine what bike you get.
