Default Modifying tank console?

Has anyone ever tried modifying there tank console to get a lower profile? I hate how stupid tall the console is on my slim and not sure why it even needs to be. I was thinking maybe i could shave some material off the bottom to get it to sit lower but not sure if that would work with the geometry of the tank. I guess i'm just looking for ideas and opinions

The reason for the height is to accommodate the depth of the speedo and associated wiring and connectors, and to put it at a decent viewing angle. You could maybe take a little off it, but probably not enough to make a noticeable difference.

I got rid of it altogether, moved the speedo and warning lights to a rocker mounted bracket and installed the blackline dash panel to cover the fuel pump access plate.

The tach itself doesnt seem that tall. From looking at pictures it looks like the console could be only half as tall and still have room

Go for the Blackline console. Everyone seems to be married to it, even though, I personally, think it is the wrong direction and sticks up. I haven't seen it in person though so I am probably way off base.

hmmm, maybe i could try something like the breakout style and put the gauge below the bars.
Ive come across things like these below, but none ever seem to fit 2012 softails, anyone know what the difference is between 11's and 12's?

Slim12, what a coincidence. I was looking at the RWD low profile dashes yesterday. I am getting my tank stretched on my Slim and am looking for a way to use one of the low profile dashes. I am going to see if the guy doing my tank stretch can use one of these somehow.

That sounds like it will be awesome to have a stretched tank. Can't wait to see how that turns out and really curious to hear if they can make that dash work. Still dont know why it wont work beyond 2007 tho

Get a dremel with cut off wheels and chop it down. Wont even matter if you dont get it perfect since it has a seal but you might need to shorten the seal a little by cutting a segment out (in front, behind the bars would be less noticeable). If so put it back together with a single pin pushed into each side and some rtv in the middle to knit it back together. You can put a chunk of clay under your speedo and press the dash back down to see how much clearance you need. Mark a line with a silver sharpie and go to work.

How much is it bugging you? You have the best stock dash in a long time in my opinion.
