I made the switch in 08 and don't mind at all. Light coming on and saying 35 miles to empty is really the same thing. I do miss the slower idle sound of my old carb Harley.

The gas warning light on all three of my most recent bikes (Fatboy and two Yamaharleys) was on all the time.

Maybe it's just me.

I set my B trip gauge for oil changes and my A trip evertime I fill up then I refill when it get around 165.
Plus my gas gauge low light has worked perfect since new, Its always right at a Gallon left when it comes on.. So I've got about 45 miles till she runs out.
