Default Need Information on Deluxe. Handling/Ride

I ride a Dyna, but thinking about buying a Deluxe. I haven't test driven
one yet. Just wanted to know how this bike will ride compared to Wide Glide.
I ride alot on backroads, little hwy, some twisties. I like the look.
Let me know.

My husband owns a wide glide I have the deluxe, I prefer the deluxe its a smoother ride I think. The handling is completely different, I suggest test riding and see for yourself.

The Deluxe sits you real low (just over 24" seat height) and the seat is made for those who are less than around 5-9 as you are pushed up against the tank. If you ride super aggressive, you will scrap on twistys due to the ride height.

The bike is probably the best looking Harley based on my biased opinion. If you are taller than around 5-10, consider apes and a new or modified seat with some Harley Goodie extensions. SJ Ron

I'm 6'1" and am pretty damn comfortable on my deluxe with 17" apes. I even have the rear lowered about 2 inches. But it took a while to adjust my riding style to avoid scraping boards and pipes on every turn. On a stock deluxe, you should be fine in the twisties, might scrape a floorboard from time to time if you push it pretty hard. But overall the bike is well worth it.

I used to ride a Wide Glide....mostly backroads and twistys.

I now have a Heritage. I like the looks of the Deluxe better, but needed the bags AND the lean angle is better on the Heritage than the Deluxe. I couldn't go around a corner on the Deluxe without scraping...forget aggressive riding like you can on a Dyna.

Here is a link to where you can see I changed a bit on the Heritage to give it more of the Deluxe feel.

If you don't need bags, you could get the Deluxe and get the Shotgun Shocks...that way when you were going to carve up the twistys you can just raise it up a bit for better lean angle.

But like any bike...gotta test ride first...coming from a Dyna, I would make sure to test ride both the Deluxe and the Heritage.

The Deluxe I now have is my favorite bike that I have had over any other in years gone by,( I sure miss my 70 Electra glide though and it's a tough 2nd). It's also anything but stock though, the only things that have not been touched are the tins, the wheels, the frame and cases. I think the Deluxe provides the best platform to start on a custom bike with but of course I am a little biased. Don't worry about dragging or scraping because 1, there are ways to avoid that and 2, you ain't ridin unless your throwin sparks anyway.

The best thing to do is rent one for a half day and find some twistys to decide if the Deluxe is what you are looking for. SJ Ron

Totally different bikes...test ride is mandatory. Handling will always go to the Dyna.

Beautiful bikes, but you'll need to take corners like a grandma unless you jack up the suspension height quite a bit.
It may be the worst bike Harley makes when it comes to cornering clearance.

Says you... I've ridden some quite spirited runs over Molas, Coal Banks, and Red Mountain Passes on the Milliion Dollar Highway more times than I can count on my Deluxe (with fishtails). Yeah it scrapes the footboards in the switchbacks, but I'd put down some Benjamins against a timed run. It may appeal to the slow & show crowd, but it really isn't any worse than a Dyna, bagger, or other softie. A Ducati it isn't, but I beg to differ on your saying either jack it up or ride it like a grandma.
