1988 FXST carb
G'day Fellas.
Last week went for a short ride. She was hesitating and missing a bit then stopped. OK time for a carb job. I got a James Gaskets kit and installed. Set float at the published height of 16-17mm. All good when upright but even with just a little wiggle she spat fuel out the o/flow. Reset to 18mm all good but what's that dribble? Yep, the fuel inlet elbow cracked. Bugga, I'm going for a ride on the w/end.Dayenight Performance at Windsor got one over night. Just a quick 100 mile round trip this morning to get it. Job done and she's running like a train.
Cheers

The bike's had an odd feel for awhile... didn't know if it was just me -or- something fishy with the bike. Got fellow ALR member to ride and he confirmed there was something amiss. Took it the local indy and got Patch to do a test ride. He came back said it OK... until the last bit and then he felt it too. A quick "ping" test on the spokes showed the problem: rear wheel spokes just went "thud!"
After finally pulling the wheel off (RPITA due to H-D axle placement & my V&H long shots) we discovered the real culprit!
Yep! A blatantly broken spoke... Fortunately the shop had a spare wheel laced up that was a "close" fit (they had to adjust a spacer). Then swap tire & tube and reinstall and got me back on the road. Once the Buchanan SS spokes arrive, they'll re-lace my hub & rim and do the swap again.
Damn! Why didn't I think about how annoying wire wheels can be when I bought this bike???

Glad you got it sorted. I do not, DO NOT, like wire wheels anymore. I avoid them for reasons such as this. PITA to clean, to maintain, and too many things to go wrong. But they look good...
