Thunderheader install
I installed my Thunderheader on my Softail Slim tonight. I have been waiting of over a month for the heat shields to arrive. Apparently they are on backorder. Other posts have advised to install the heat shields on the pipe first, as it is easier.
I had removed my exhaust when I bought the Thunderheader, thus, my bike was down for the past month. I got tired of waiting.
Let me share that it is best to remove the right side floorboard and the attached rear brake pedal (three torx bolts) before attempting to install the pipe. It allows you to lift the pipe outwards from the bottom and move the open ends of the pipes to the exhaust ports. You'll never do it with the floorboard attached. The pipe goes right on.
I'd also like to share that by putting a bunched up paper towel or a rag just behind the rear cylinder at the base to cover an opening down by the shift shaft. As I attempted to install the innermost nut on the rear exhaust flange, the nut would slip out of the socket and fall into the aforementioned hole. I lost two nuts to that hole before I attempted the third nut. I found one of the two nuts, one the floor, but not the first one.
I've attached some photos of the installed pipe. It was starting to get dark out, so please excuse the sh**ty pictures.
