Heck I get nervous when anyone else wrenches on one of my vehicles, dealership or not. I have had worse service experiences from dealerships then anywhere else.

True but you could wire the passing lamps and headlight together so you do away with the switch. I just installed them on my 2016 although I did use the switch but I am about to just wire them together as I don't see an need for turning them off. They already go off when I turn my high beams on. This way there's an available hole for something else.
I added the auxiliary wiring harness so my passing lamps stay on when I switch the high beams on. Why wouldn't you want the most light you can get?
It's been a while since I've owned anything K&N and this is my first K&N for any bike but I was almost positive that the red tint was due to the oil used? Either way, I do think the black would look awesome on the Night Train.

It's the oil that turns them red. The filter media is white
