I added the auxiliary wiring harness so my passing lamps stay on when I switch the high beams on. Why wouldn't you want the most light you can get?

It's been a while since I've owned anything K&N and this is my first K&N for any bike but I was almost positive that the red tint was due to the oil used? Either way, I do think the black would look awesome on the Night Train.

It's the oil that turns them red. The filter media is white

Needs a new chrome shifter rod and a chrome lower belt guard now.

Correct!
Only now with the black gauze, the red oil wont effect it

My red oil got bleached out by the Florida sun. It's definitely still oiled... just not red anymore. lol.
