What did you do to Your Softail Today?
I'm not sure where you ride. But I can assure you, you're definitely not going to catch the same scenery on a highway as you will the backroads of New England. I'll take the Mom n Pop dinner with real meals instead of some frozen entrée from an Olive Garden or some other chain. As far as fuel goes there's plenty of the big names, Shell, Mobil, Sunoco and so on. I guess we have different views on what a road trip is, I'd rather take my chances with that cow in the rode then a tractor trailer recap flying off at 80MPH.
IMO freeways offer the exact same scenery but are more convenient, Less animals on the road, plentiful gas stations with fresh gas. Some of those backroad stations have premium gas that's been sitting there for months as most farms dont use premium. Better restaurant's with more of a menu and if you break down the tow truck can find you faster than on some back road

Didn't mean to start a debate. For the record, sometimes the ride isn't really the destination. Sometimes I really have somewhere to be, and for a weekender or so, I like to ride rather than drive. On those occasions, usually visiting family, the trip is mixed interstate and back road. It would be nice if I always had the time to take the scenic route, but sometimes I just don't.

Temps are still cold and my garage isn't heated. Was waiting for somebody to come over and thought I'd begin pulling the fenders. The front is an aftermarket I put on after hitting a deer, and the rear is being replaced after getting hit by an inattentive driver. Fingers got cold so I only pulled the rear for now.
Will eventually have new fender struts, belt guard, clutch lever assembly, clutch cable, and new Boss Bags put on as weather permits.
