What did you do to Your Softail Today?
.. and it ends (for today)...
Today was productive AND frustrating!
I got Reaper's front end rebuilt, including the new bars, new throttle and idles cables, and new front rotor. I also changed the headlight mount to a Springer style, that pushes it out from the triple tree, and put a 3/4" spacer under it to raise the headlight about an inch total. I like the way it looks much better, and it SHOULD provide me more viewable road at night.
Then I went to install the Progressive 422 with RAP rear shocks. Things were going smoothly, until I torqued the front nut on the left shock, that has the line out to the adjuster for the preload... as I was torquing it, I didn't notice that it was turning, and by the time my torque wrench "clicked", I saw that the shock had turned, and wrapped up the line out to the adjuster! Of course, I couldn't just turn the shock, I had to completely remove it! Talk about a time waster!
So, I reinstalled it, and was watching it as I was torquing the front nut again, and sure enough, as I got close to the torques spec, I saw it begin to turn again. Of course, getting a wrench on the opposing nut was impossible, so the stream of swearing came fast and furious! 🤣 I finally was able to get a pry bar in there, to keep the shock from moving, and got it torqued down.
By that point, I was DONE! So, tomorrow, I still have the other shock to install, and mount the adjuster, to finish that job. Then I have to reinstall the transmission, and primary case, reinstall the exhaust, wire up the handlebars to the battery, reinstall the toolboxes, reinstall and align the rear wheel, add the various oils, and change the engine oil filter, and she'll be ready for the 2021 riding season.
Hopefully I'll get everything finished up tomorrow, so I can take advantage of the next few days which are supposed to be sunny and warm!
The old Progressive 422s. Still in great shape.
Cheers!

After finally getting the okay from my Doc to lose the sling and begin to use my right arm again with a 10 pound weight restriction, I went out to the garage.
I began to remove some of the large amount of chrome the PO had put on my recently acquired Evo Springer. I also did a modification to the Hypercharger he put on to make it easier for me to use the rear brake pedal. Upon removing the seat, I noticed that he also installed a Screaming Eagle ignition module. This got me thinking he may have put a cam in it. I checked and it has adjustable pushrods so looks like indeed, it more than likely has a hotter than stock cam. That along with V&H exhaust an S & S carb and Pingel Petcock have me thinking I might have a good performing engine.
I am anxiously awaiting the day I can actually ride it and see what it can do.

Well, this might sound a little funny- not funny haha- but a buddy of mine showed me how to change the oil(s) on my Slim S. I've been wanting to learn for quite awhile now. Not only to save the buck and a half/hr at the dealership but the satisfaction of knowing that everything is tight and not over tightened like my oil filter was. We had a bitch of a time trying to get it to turn off. Guy must of had a half inch air gun on the other end to tighten it when I had the dealership change it last time!!! LOL. And for the price I get the 3 drop oil kit for I'm saving almost $200 per change. That's what I did this weekend............Now I can start saving for that 131ci kit that I want to upgrade to in time. Because 117 isn't big enough-LOL.

Today wasn't quite the "home stretch" I was hoping for, but another long day in the trenches, and got a fair amount accomplished.
Finished installing the Progressive 422 w/RAP rear shocks, and got the transmission reinstalled (including new countershaft bearing), along with the tranny sprocket, and shift lever.
Also, yesterday, I didn't post a pic of my new/modified headlight mount, so here's one I took today.
Still have a few things to get done - reinstall the primary case, oil bag, exhaust, TSSM and alarm module, and program the fobs, wire everything up, and reinstall the gas tank - but I think the major work is now complete. With luck, I'll get Reaper all buttoned up tomorrow, and get out on the road!
Cheers!

TOTLKOS,
You won't regret the 131 Kit! The break in miles bite but well worth the effort to do it right.
I am loving what the kit did to my 18 Breakout! Its bloody ridiculous on a 630lb frame! Power starts around 2300 RPM and search me where the top is....I have backed down well before it reached it. It just doesn't stop pulling and I mean like a rabid Pit Bull who hasn't eaten recently at a T-Bone.
Get it and hang the H on...for dear life!! LOL
Dyno is Thursday and I may go up to the new SE Air intake which just came out....cause umm...why the H not? (I mean aside from the fact that its like $549.00 blah).

Today was the culmination of a two year (one year was Pandemic) journey to take a 2018 FXBRS and shape it into the incarnation God truly intended them to be:
2018 Softail FXBRS
5 gallon Fat Boy fuel tank.
2018 Fat Boy Seat and pillion.
Chrome all over, within reason.
131 Stage IV Kit
MasterTune TTS tuner
I posted pics of the fuel tank swaparoo in another thread which was started by someone else ages ago but figured as this is the final "planned" change for this bike, I would drop a few here as well.
I love this bike! Now onward with the break in miles!
Cheers.
