I bought a "dry bag", 65 liter = 18 gal, the kind with the roll up and clip to seal top. I just drop the rolled and clipped top loop over the sissy bar with the bag sitting on the pillion seat and bind the the bottom of the bag to the lower sissy bar with a bungee. TALK ABOUT COMFY !! Been riding 6 hours leaning back on that bag with my feet forward on the pegs, livin life large.

I'll try and get a pic up when I get home. This could catch on. They didn't have roll top bags in the 60's an 70's. Turns out the damn things were "made" for sissy bars. Secure as it gets; undo the bungee and lift the bag off the sissy bar. Carry the whole shabang into your hotel room. Takes like 8 seconds.
Neat observation! Because I also have a canoe, I do have a dry bag, and I also have a (short) sissy bar with backrest that I currently use to secure my small HD luggage bag to!

You see how easy a dry bag would work with the top loop dropped over the tall sissy bar then,,,, "made for it" , really and even the high quality ones are dirt cheap, (75 bux +-) compared to most MC luggage. You can get a lot of **** in a 65 liter one too, like 3 days of clothes, a laptop & accessories and toiletries,,, no problem,,, with room to spare.

Be watchful for abrasion though, which can happen really easily on a bike with a vibrating big V-twin. At least one dry bag manufacturer, Baja, warns that drybags cannot take abrasion.

Which saddle bags do you recommend for a Breakout?

I'm done with my seat
I'll never make a career in upholstery I guess but that is ok

Anyone with a stretched tank around? I could use some help to cover this area.

Default New Breakouts

What do you boys think of the new Breakouts. Info now available on HD website. Not so sure about digital instruments, but otherwise interesting. Massive overhaul of entire softail range. 107 and 114 engines. Dyna range is no more.

Just rattle can that chit black! Can't hurt to try it before blowing a chunk of change on something fancy.

So how's the seat ride, amigo?

Things I've noticed about 2018:

1. Less rake
2. Shorter wheelbase
3. 3.5 gal gas tank vs 5
4. Improvement,,?,, to front suspension.
5. 5 qt oil capacity vs 3.5 (yep I realize its a whole new engine too).

I've ridden a SG wih the M8 and like the extra power but I also like old school aspects that are "Harley Davidson". I've spent $ 000's working around California emissions gayness, getting my 2014 to look, sound and feel what my 65 + year old brain remembers a HD to be, (or as close as I can at any rate). In all honesty, my TC has more than I need in power and though more is always nice I wouldn't be inclined to forgo what HD-ness I have, in the interest of power alone. "Just me".

My first impression is positive, except for the instrument shape. I love:

- The bigger engines, especially the 114
- The lighter weight (about 30 lb which = 4.3% of the bike's former weight!!)
- The easily adjustable under-seat single shock
- Even the smaller fuel tank (makes the engine look larger)
- Wet sump oil - no external tank - eliminates sumping and potential for leaks
- The kept the "kicked out" front fork on the Breakout! THAT is one its special features
