Picked up my breakout 2 weeks ago and just installed my pipes, air cleaner and tuner. This is hands down the bike for me and I've loved it for all 104 miles
I really wanted red and insisted on abs if I was buying new so it took some time to find.
So far Went with v&h 2 into 2, pm air cleaner and the v&h fp3. I also re-used contrast cut pegs and mirrors from my previous bike. I also removed the emblems which I personally hates the day I saw them.
Immediate simple plans:
- faceplate for air cleaner
- minimal tank decals
- powder coat rear struts, rear turn signals, headlight bezel, upper chain guard, tank trim, and maybe v&h chrome tips red to match the bike
- find some nice axle covers
- USB outlit to charge devices
- figure something out with the license plate
Wanted to do in the near future but don't see an easy route
- tank lift
- tank lift will probably involve a speedo/tach change. I think you could use a Dakota oval gauge that is 4" x 2" and allow for the lift if you added a couple more inches to the risers. I still haven't seen anyone pull a tank lift off with ease. I think the MCL-5400 or MCL-7400 in black would look nice on either side of the bars
- detachable sissy bar
Long term
- custom seat that's not $2000
- custom paint on oil tank
- wheels
- headlight
- bars
- maybe air ride, but don't know much about it coming from dyna's.

For the tank lift you must change your bars, or when fully torqued they hit the tank. As for the speedo, you can just turn the clamp around and have the speedo up. This requires very minimal modification. As for the tank lift itself, it looks horrible. When you actually lift the tank the ugly square frame is there for all to see and a gap between the tank and frame is very obvious. It also requires lengthening the cross over fuel line which is then more obvious as well. The only thing I have thought to fix this is to get a larger rubber sleeve than the one that is stock to fill the tank/frame gap.

The opening between the tank and frame, hidden behind the steering column, is far less obvious than the chrome rocker covers which show off nicely after the lift. You can get braided X-over lines with chrome end fittings to accentuate them, sort of like getting red/yellow spark plug wires. Its all a matter of preference. If factory sleek is your look, the lift may not work for you. Some feel customization is a Harley Davidson strong point .

So a change in bars was also required...
I'm used to doing this on dynas. It took 15 minutes and was easily reverse able. When tank lift = new bars it's far from a quick change.
I'm not getting into a tank lift until I see someone doing it successfully with only moderate changes.
Flipping the gauge isn't going to work for me and doesn't seem to be the issue.
Has anyone tried increasing the length of the risers to position stock bars further from the tank? Wouldn't this add more clearance for the bars.

Only thing I found necessary for the 3" lift on my 2014 BO were 10 degree riser bushings. I also had installed apes though and short CVO risers. I'm not sure you wouldn't have issues with this configuration if you kept the stock bars. Do a trial lift first but be prepared to disconnect your X-over or it will restrict your lift.
