The Avon is every bit as good as the others in warm to hot weather. I got caught in a huge rain storm Friday while on my way home from work and the Avons didn't slip or slide at all. I obviously didn't push it hard but I didn't drive at a crawl either. I was able to keep up with traffic on the Interstate.
Wear wise my experience is that the Avon's mileage is a little bit better than the Dunlop and quite a bit better than the Metz.
It's grip and handling is excellent!
Where the Metz falls behind is when the temperatures start falling. It's grip decreases compared to the other two.
Obviously that won't be a factor to those of you have minimal climate changes.
Hope this info helps.
Got the same info from my Indie. I live in Minnesota and ride as long as possible. If the snow is not accumulating on the pavement, I ride. He said the Dunlop E3 was way better than the Metz when it gets cold. He told me something about the compound of which the tire was made. Had no idea what he was talking about, but I trust him.

Eagle Ray - I'm running the Metzeler 240, and that's about 2000 miles on it, run 40 psi.

I'm still running the stock tire but almost at 4000 miles so it's time to change it. I have been reading this posts and looks like to most common options are Metz 260 and the Dunlop Elite lll 250, but any suggestion on which one should I go with. I live in Houston, TX so extreme cold will not be an issue but cannot say the same about extreme heat

Either tire is a good choice. Guess the only advice might be to make sure if you go with Metz make sure you get a tire made in Germany. And have a good tech do the install.

Thanks!, I actually got the Dunlop Rear Elite 3 250/40VR-18 Blackwall Tire from Denniskirk for 162.88 so will see how it goes. Now time to find a good tech to install, will try to avoid the dealer due to the price...
My front tire is still looking good but may also change is the Dunlop Elite 3 120/70R21 Front Tire a good option??

I did the same. Went with Dunlop E3 250/40, I have the OEM tire on the front and hopefully will be able to keep it for a long time, just to save money. I picked the Dunlop after talking to my local Indie. Nothing wrong with Metz or Avon, just his recommendation. Price was identical (and $200 less than my dealer). When I replace the front I will stay with Dunlop E3. I believe it is a 120/70 that is needed because they don't make the weird size Harley uses. But the tech will know for sure. Let us know what you think with the new tire. I was taken by surprise when I got on and rode my bike out of the parking lot. Way better than OEM. Good luck to you. Ride Safe.
