samson fishtail exhaust performance
Hi guys, haven't seen many posts on this subject so I would love any comments or feedback.
I recently had my 2009 deluxe 96ci fitted with 204 se cams, big sucker arlen ness air filter and screaming eagle tuner running fishtail exhausts 28.5".
had it dyno tuned the other day and the numbers came back terrible. 75 hps and 83 fp torque.
Ive had 5 friends had the same gear installed on softail customs same set up but different exhaust and their numbers were identical 93 hps and 104 torque. all had identical exhausts big radius vance and hines. these pipes are notorious for not giving the bike the any chance at maximum output as say compared to 2 into 1 pipes. they all used the same dyno tuner.
what surprised me that as even as bad as the big radius are my fishtails were even worse. Im off by almost 20 horsepower and even more torque.
I never expected big horsepower and its not what Im going for just a little quicker and responsive than stock but this is ridiculous. now Im compromising looks for performance.
anyone else had same issues and done something about. thanks

Not sure if the numbers are that terrible, but I would expect more since you have cams too. I have a 2013 Deluxe (103ci), Stage 1 - SE Heavy Breather, SE Pro Tuner and Freedom Performance 36' True Dual Fishtails. Dyno tuned - 74HP and 95fp. He specifically advised for the Freedom Performance and against the Samson as his experience was usually a loss in output with them. My mechanic said that I could expect hitting 100HP/100fp torque with good cams.

As many on this forum will tell you, fishtails are probably the most restrictive pipes you can put on your bike and 2-1 will get you the best numbers. So in general, the statement is probably correct. However, you will find a lot of bikes here that have the same or a very similar setup like you and have been able to post higher numbers. Check the thread on Dyno numbers for softails. I am almost certain you will find the exact same setup posted and should be able to compare.
