Default engine cutsoff at idle

I took the fat boy out for about an hour today, first time in about 4 or 5 weeks. When I let it warm upit cut off several times while on the side stand. I then rode about 20 minutes easy to let things warm up and then ran it through the gears fairly hard a few times and then down the high way and back home for a total of about an hours ride. I put down the side stand while I went to open the gates and garage door and it cuts off again. When I tried to re crank it it didn't want to fire up and then black smoke out the pipes. Waited a few minutes and fired it up put it in the garage for the night. I have had it out a couple of time in the past 3 months, and it has been hooked to a battery tender and Stabil in the tank. It is an 06 Fat Boy. any ideas?

I's it carb. or F.I? I have 06 103 C.V.O. FAT BOY but it's F.I, and took out today, but ran like champ, I'm worried about letting it warm up enough because loud pipe and neighbor's giving me look of not happy. So I just wait few minute's than I go thru neighborhood slowly so to warm up little more and try not to be loud, then when get out on main road I kind of start giving it more gas to further warm up, but sorry abut going on about me, have you put fresh gas in tank? I do even if just gallon or two if set's up. Not a wrench but it just sound's like you may want to take it out more and get on highway and hammer along, not to get ticket, but go as fast as you dare, for you can use all gas you can and put 93 octane if you have around, how many mile's do you have? did your bike get the new 25% fuel injector's that they recalled on early 06's? Let me know how it work's out!!! GOOD LUCK PURPLE HAZE

It is FI and I have around 5500 miles on it. the gas is about 5 or 6 weeks old. I let it warm up while i am shutting grage door, gate to the back yard etc. and then ride easy thru neighborhood, loud pipes. I'll get a chance to ride tomorrow and maybe I'll run all he gas out and refill. I did use Stabil but who knows about the quality of gas these days. Maybe I go by the dealer and see about new injectors.

I had a similar problem with my 07 CVO Ultra at around 2K miles. It was somewhat intermittent (wouldn't do it all the time)but it endedup being the Idle Control Sensor. Warrantyitem. Took 'em about45 minutes to troubleshoot and replace. Should be a diagnostic code stored that'll confirm it.

I lost my post for early 06 only injector's ,but if you get down on knee's on left side of bike, you can see the number(need good flaslight) and I have forgot you may find blog by looking at all softail blog's, it was week or so, but I think you are O.K if number is like 709-06 or 709-06s, that's just last few of number's and some of latest injector's have 25 on top of number, guess they did that for mechs. could tell better than straining to see number, hope this help's, your sympton's are exactley how old injector's made bike run after they had the mile's you have, but if you bought before feb.13th 06(I think) they would have the old injector's, and I have heard some people still have not changed because bike run's fine, but even if out of warrenty should change for free, but how long will they keep bike? Here in D.F.W area must make appointment, and then they still want you to leave until they fix it!!!!! Man I hope harley get's act together, when I go to some dealer's in area, the whole part's and mechs. are new after week or so, my 8 cent's. GOOD LUCK.

check to see what codes you have in the cluster. you can look through the archives to see how to pull the codes from your speedo. or google in harley fault codes. you will find several sites that can tell how to pull codes. good luk kerry

Thanks for all the advice. Went out yesterday no problems bike never ran better. Rode easy for a while and then hit it pretty hard down the highway. I'm still going to check on the injectors, maybe i just had moisture in the tank. I'll take it by the dealer tomorrow and see what they say.
