Default Heated Gear

I have been told that it is not necessary to have a wire from the battery to the hook up for heated gear - - they claim just plug into the battery charger wire, using a special wire connector.

Is this okay, or should I go direct from the battery?
Thanks,
Balloo

When you buy the gear it should come with the connection wire to the battery. I just used the one that came with, easy.

I just bought Powerlet heated gear. Their manual said if you use any battery connection other than the one it came with, it voids the warranty. Wasn't hard to hook up.

The battery connection is a flat 2 wire affair, right?

They make a connection that fits that flat 2 wire and has a female end that goes into your heated gear. That's what I'm using, so only one set of wires going to the battery but they serve 2 purposes. Your battery outlet goes directly to the battery as does the heated gear wires ... but why run 2 sets of wires when one does the trick?

Heated gear definitely extends the riding season and since I live way north and close to the Canadian border I wouldn't be without it.

It's all about amperage. I run my Gerbing gloves off the battery tender wire, and its fine. If your running more than gloves, the battery tender wire won't be man enough, so you could cause a fire.

My gear came with a 'fuse' and the wires, the fuse was enough for my Liner(Gerbing)/Gloves(HD)/Pants Liner (Gerbing).
Not sure if your charger wires will be good enough for that.
I am not too worried about amberage , it was all good when lights were stock, now I have LED front and back so I am definitely low amberage.

My Gerbings came with it's own wire/fuse harness, so that's what I used. I've also got the Shotguns and some other crap bolted on the battery top posts. Just check the bolts once in a while. I noticed mine went a bit loose when I re-hooked up my gerbings for the winter...
