vaccum leak on 2005 softail deluxe

How can you detect a vaccum leak on 2005 deluxe, it runs good for 5 mins and then it starts to backfire and sometimes it spits white smoke out of the air filter

If you can keep it running long enough, try spraying carb cleaner around various areas like the intake flanges. Is it carbed or EFI?
