Default Throttle Position sensor

High or low idle cure? Well after reading several threads its fixed! For now....

Started with a weird high rpm (2000-3000 est.) when high speed to slower speed highway to off ramp. Then I started to experience throttle so low my bike turned off.

Couple threads and trip to my local dealer - picked up a throttle position sensor.

Cleaned the air cleaner - excessive blow back oil and hole located above large air intake.

About 30 min trying to remove and replace sensor and I'm back on the road.

Happy again....

Thanks for posting this. I've been experiencing some "odd" idle events myself. After cleaning and adjusting, it seems to have settled down, but I am waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Nice looking bike.

What was your odd idle experience? My bike has been acting kind of strange lately. It will idle normally and then randomly drop down to 800 or 900 instead of the usual 960-1060 or so. I've even seen it as low as 700 once or twice. Haven't had a chance yet to get it to the dealer and get their take on it.

I recently experienced idling problems also. After running hard the bike would idle at roughly 600 rpm's. Replaced the Vehicle Speed Sensor and the problem was cured.

I've also had problems with the gear indicator randomly showing different gears when I have the clutch pulled in. The newer 12's and up have the gear indicator as part of the odometer readout options but when in the tach/gear position function it's only supposed to show a gear when the clutch is out. I'm wondering if my two issues might be related

I am having high idle issues, particularly at start-up. Used to fast idle at 1500 rpm for about 15 seconds then drop to normal. Now its going to 2000 for a minute or longer, no matter what the ambient conditions are. But this is inconsistent, it doesn't happen every time.

These forums were priceless in curing my hi/low idle problems. After barely making it home from work the other night, I researched problem here. I pulled the VSS and cleaned, runs like a new bike again.

Bought a new VSS as insurance, will put on if/when problem resurfaces.

I hoped everyone got the bikes back tuned. I was going to say, for my case is was the TPS. For now I'm riding happy again.
