ive heard that HD was near bankruptcy when they introduced the fat boy and the controversy it caused with fat boy being an acroynm for the atomic bombs and all made it a hot seller and rekindled interest in harley. is that true or exagerated?

I think Arnold did more for the Fatboy in Terminator 2, sales went up after that movie, but the Fatboy didn't save Harley.

I remember when the Fat Boy came out, and HD was selling every bike they made, usually at an considerably inflated price. Fat Boy didn't hurt sales, but it sure didn't "SAVE HD.

Bill

I don't have a clue...but an interesting concept from either side of the argument!

The Fat Boy didn't save Harley way back in 1990 when it first came out. By 1990, Harley was doing pretty well.

The EVO is what helped save the company in 1984. The Shovelhead was old and way outdated to keep up with the latest. The Shovelhead was not going to meet the emmissions requirements either.

The company also went to just-in-time inventory. That is to keep what only is needed without excess everywhere. This system helped the company not have leftovers hanging around. No telling how much they saved by going this route.

AMF hurt the company, but also helped the company in some ways.Anyways....

No one thing saved the company....

I think you're right voodoo93...I have that same exact phrase rattling around in my head! I must be a fact!
