Did the Dealer install the wrong tire?
#11
I didn't notice if it stated D401 or D402.
I figured since I stated D402 and D402 was already on the front and rear then that's what they would replace it with.
I think they just looked up what came standard on the 09 Heritage and then installed that tire.
I'm not stating that I will not like the D401 better, I'm just ignorant as to what the difference is between the 401 and 402.
If the generally consensus is that the D401 will be fine, then I'm OK with that.
Thanks,

Not trying to “beat you up” over anything. Just trying to see if you have any documentation to back up your clam for the D402.
I have had bought on my Heritage and as has been pointed out the major difference is in how many miles you can get from them.
It seems that its going to be a decision of performance or mileage.

Installed Oct. 2011- miles 5433.
I've got 14500 on it now so the D402 lasted for 9000 miles and it still had some tread left.

Makes me think of the time my local service department decided to do me a "favor" and sent one of their people to get my tire from another dealership. Essentially, I called them the night before (literally as they were closing shop) and asked them if they had my rear tire in stock. I told them that I wanted to ride to Daytona for Bike Week (1 hour ride one way) but thought I'd switch out my rear which was pretty worn before I headed out. I also told them that it was the only day I was going to have free to go to Daytona so I wanted everything to go smoothly. They said they had "plenty" in stock and that as long as I got there first thing in the morning I should be in and out, no problem...
I pulled into the service department the next morning as they were unlocking their doors. First on in for the day.
After about two hours waiting around I went and talked to the guy and this is what he told me: They did not have the tire in stock like they stated the night before so they sent a driver to go get it from another store. I got a little peeved and mentioned that they stated just the night before that they had "plenty in stock". His response was "we might have sold them all between then and now." I asked him how it was possible that they sold ALL those rear tires of the same model they claimed to have between closing time one night and opening time the following morning. No response. I told them to just roll out my bike so I could leave, sating that my tire had plenty of life left to get me through the day and that I would just come back in the near future for the change. He then stated that the driver would be back soon with my tire. I asked where he went to get the tire from and I was told that he went to another dealership in DAYTONA of all places!!! I told the guy that his driver was not going to be back any time soon so please roll out my bike so I can go. This is where he told me he was doing me a "favor". He just assumed that I would go ahead and agree to wait for them to go get the tire from a place an hour away that happened to be hosting one of the biggest bike events in the country. So they went ahead and took off my wheel and unmounted the old tire and left everything up on the table until the tire arrived. I was LIVID!!!! "Why the hell didn't you guys tell me first?" I exclaimed! Especially given that they went to Daytona for the tire. I was headed that way! Had the told me that is where I could get the tire I wold have just gone there and had it switched while I hung out! Because none of the dealerships in Daytona are associated with the dealership I was in, I have to say that the only ones they were doing a favor for was themselves. They didn't want me taking my business elsewhere.
Needless to say, having arrived at 8 am in the morning to the shop I did not leave there until sometime after three in the afternoon. It took me an hour or so to get to Daytona after so I got to hang around for all of about four hours before I had to make the trip back home.
From that day forward, WHEN I do take my bike to the dealer for anything I INSIST they let me know BEFORE hand if they want to do ANYTHING different than what we originally agree upon.

Well I don't think my Dealer was doing me a favor or tried to screw me.
I think perhaps they have the least experienced Tech. changing tires and perhaps that person just assumed since Heritages come stock with D401 that's what was supposed to be installed.
I'm also not saying that the D401 will not be a good tire for me, I just don't want to accept the D401 if the D402 is what I really need.
I've looked at the Dunlop site but I'm not looking for Dunlop's spec data, I'm looking for user advice.
Anyway, I'm leaning to keeping the D401 and then when it wears out I'll perhaps will replace the front and rear with something different.
Thanks everyone for the information

Your bike came out of the factory with a D401 150/8016. If there was a D402 on it, the tire was installed after initial delivery, and was probably a MU/85-16. As far as I know. Dunflop doesn't make a D402 in the 150. There isn't anything wrong with a 401 and the dealer didnt screw you. He just installed the OEM tire on your bike.

I'll be stopping by the Dealer today to ask them if there's an issue with the D402 (front) and D401 (rear) mismatch tires.
I also take this opportunity to point out that they installed a tire that wasn't what I requested.
Thanks everyone for the advice.
