Default Beach Bar Question

Hello everyone.

I have a 2012 Heritage and I'm looking for a set of wide beach or bikini bars with a pretty good pull back but I would like to retain the factory cables. A buddy wants my factory bars and is willing to buy me a set of bars of my choice but I'm not looking to spend any money out of pocket for cables right now. I would like to pull the trigger on this, but if I'm looking at a couple hundred extra $$ on cables, I'll probably hold off until next year.

I guess I have two questions:

1. Does anyone out there have a set of beach bars with factory cables?

2. Can I take the length of all the measurements of the factory bars (rise+width+pull back) and compare that to the total of the beach bars to determine whether or not I can get away with the factory cables?

Thanks in advance for any advice. I tried searching this topic but the search function was giving me a hard time so I'm sorry if this has been discussed and I have missed it.

you can do bikini bars with stock cables but anything more than that you will need longer cables

Beach bars will mandate longer cables

I have a 2012 Heritage with HD beach bars [part 55967-08]. I also have the Fat bar riser kit [part 56916-07].

HD beach bars: Width: 36" Rise: 2.5" Pullback: 14"
Fat bar riser: 3.6"

I replaced all cables with the HD SS braided cables. Those part numbers are:
Clutch: 38851-09 [total length 64.7"]
Throttle/Idle: 56805-05A [total length 32.5"]
Upper brake: 41800058A [total length 26"]

The cost of the Beach bars and risers was $310 and the cost of the cables was approximately $340 when purchased through HD. The prices may be different now but it gives you a ballpark figure. You can definitely get better prices through Surdyke HD, New Castle HD or other online sites.

Like the others have said, any beach bars that are remotely considered wide with pullback will require longer cables (and wires, don't forget). Its worth doing right. Perhaps consider saving up for a little longer and getting the bars you really want. Go big or go home!!

I have the Baron Big Johnsons with stock cables. They are the widest that I would go with with stock cables. If i replace my cables, I will probably go with a tad longer to be safe and not stress the cables.

Don't let the cables influence your decision on the bars. Get the bars you like and cable up accordingly. It's worth it in the long run...

I got these bars. At 34.5" wide, I can't imagine trying to navigate this big bike in tight spaces with something wider. It's very touchy as it is. Kept my factory cables, but the brake line (solid) hits if I turn too far. (I have stainless lines to replace it any-who)
