I had a 2007 883 and the differences I noticed was the softails was much smoother (counterbalanced engine), better suspension, more comfortable for longer rides, much more comfortable for the passenger and much more roomy. Most of the bikes I've owned had spokes and they were not a pain to clean. I am sure you will love the Deluxe. Let us know what you decide

Take it for a test ride and then trade for it.

I traded a Sporty 1200c for a Heritage. So much more comfortable riding a Softail. Spokes are a bit of a PITA to clean but it's not a major problem.

Thanks so much for all the good information. I'm taking it for a test ride today. Also wondering if i need to buy any kind of warranty plan. The bike is 3 years old but only has 450 miles.

Default deluxe ride

Just got back from taking a test ride on the 2010 deluxe. Wow, what a difference from my sporty. Smoooooooth. Only thing I noticed was a slight whine from the gears when shifting down from 2nd. Anyone else have 1st gear whine? I'm thinkin real serious about trading.

Well somebody traded it in for a reason! Buy the warranty for a year. Probably nothing at all, it's an entirely different drive train than you're used to. Ride it hard for 2 months and if it holds together, cancel the warranty and get a pro rated refund. ( But I don't think that's necessary personally.)

Or, negotiate a 3 month unlimited mileage warranty form the seller as part of the deal. It's just an agreement between that Dealer and you.

"Hey We both know it's like new, but if it breaks between now and August 1 of this year, the Dealer fixes it."

Good advise. Believe me, I'll; be asking lots of questions before I make the trade.

I am only 63 and I like the look of the laced wheels..

Only thing on them is to make sure they don't have any loose spokes,,, I check mine every spring and fall... and at each tire or brake change..

On the spring and fall I will tighten them myself,, on the tire changes I have my Indy do a check/balance, and true job..

Only once in the 6yrs have I had to tighten them and that was after the dealer did the 10k service,,, they must have not checked them at all as I had 5 or 6 on both rims that where a little loose..

I have read in here that on the 11's and 12's that it seem there is more of an issue. Seems like the China wheels are not up to the Pre 11's that where made somewhere else or better made..

Best to just have them checked to make sure....
