Default 07 Train Chopped rear fender questions

Guys,

I want to chop the rear fender on my 07 Train....Heartland makes a bolt-on kit for the 07 that includes fender, seat and struts but the sucker is 2000 bucks!! Seems ridiculously high to me but what do I know....the wide tire kit you can buy for about 2k and that has the fender, rim, tire and rear frame. I don't get it.

So my alternative is to use something like a Milwaukee Iron fender or something of the sort and probably have to cut the frame. I want to hear what you guys have done and what you ran into along with pics if you are willing to share.

Thanks.

I put the Milwuakee Iron short slim fender on my 00 night train, All i had to do was cut the horns down flush, The fender slipped right on. Randy at milwaukee iron is extremely helpful. Only problem i was having is finding a seat that fit perfect, so i decided to have a custom one made. I will post pics as soon as the seat is complete.

Was it a wider than stock fender? Did you have to use any spacers or was it a perfect fit on the sides?

The fender was 7.5(160 fitment), It mounted perfectly to the strut mounts, was a hair loose before paint, but after paint was snug.

I really like the Heartland kit, but how can they charge $2000 for a seat, fender, and struts? That price seems crazy to me.

I ended up making my fender from a blank, and struts from a design in my head. It still wasn't cheap at the end of the day, but then it's one off. The chromer was the big $$$ expense.

I tried the Milwaukee Iron route first, but what a huge, hugedisappointment that turned out to be.

Kudos to the BBB in Virginia.

The Heartland kit was the first thing I looked at.Then I saw $785.00 for the fender struts.I don't care if they're made of gold, that's too much. The fender I bought came with the templates to cut the struts off and I didn't have to shim or space anything to get it to fit.
