IMHO I'd want to stay away from 18s on both front and back. The front needs to be a larger radius if you're moving up from 16s. 18s front and back just seem to loose some of the 'mass' that is a heavy twin.

These combos work (IMHO) if you're moving away from 16s:
16" out back, 18" up front.
18" out back, 21" up front.

Where we live/ride we have a lot of flat farmland and cross-winds. I feel like the spoke front handles better. I kept the original 16 and I've only been riding 3 seasons, so keep that in mind

That is what I did for a few reasons: 1. With my bags you don't notice the rear wheel that much anyway. 2. I am doing some blacking-out so I may paint the disk rear black or some combination of my tin colors 3. $$$... I'd rather buy another 80 spoke for the hubby's Heritage first

I like the non-spoked wheels on the fatboy, if I were to change I would look at mag wheels.

Is it true that solid wheels catch a lot of cross wind and that makes the bike a little harder to handle?

I haven't noticed that the wheels catch more wind on a cross breeze than I do.
