just joined the forum and already have a question.....I'm looking for a good lift for my 2012 heritage. Is a jack with a 4" min height ok?

Anything in particular? If it fits under the bike, has a maximum load rating of at least 150lbs heavier than the bike, and doesn't drop your bike when you use it..it should be good. Be sure to invest in some ratcheting straps or something, too.

I just bought a craftsman professional aluminum bike jack for my 2012 Heritage from Sears and so far so good. I like it. Easy to use, lightweight and lifts it nice and high. I got it on sale with free shipping and they had an online coupon floating around as well.

Good luck.

the reason for my concern is that my bike clears the floor about 3.5" on the stand side and the frame protectors take up about .75". If I go with a j & s lift with a 4" min height would it be the norm to put a board or something under the jiffy stand to get more clearance on the left side?

The best lift/jack I have came across will fit under a clearance of 2 1/2" and lift to 30". I have had mine for 4 years and have not had any issue what so ever with it. The same model is also used by many bike shops. Don't let the brand or where it is sold fool you. I purchased mine when it was on sale plus used a 20% off coupon and ended up paying around $160 out the door. It fits under the frame perfect. One pad fits right behind the kickstand bracket and the other one fits right under the rear of the frame. http://www.harborfreight.com/high-po...ift-99887.html

Same here. I bought mine while it was on sale, and with the ol' lady's employee discount I ended up getting it for about $80.
My Slim is perched up on one right now.
No problems so far.
