Default EFI warm up time

I used to have a Sporty that I would warm up a good 3 minutes or so when the engine was cold before I would ride. It seems like my deuce is ready in about a minute, and rides fine right off the bat. I do keep the engine speed down for the first few minutes. Do fuel injection motors need less warm up time? Seems my Sporty with the carb needed much more warm up time.

Thanks!

I agree, I warm mine up about the same amount of time and it takes off without any problems.

Just as long as you don't ride it hard as soon as you start, it should be ok with 30 seconds or so of warm up time

As long as it is summer, start and go.

Just like a car it is bad for a motor to run cold. When a engine is cold you have more blow by around piston rings and you get alot of gas in the oil to contaminate it.

When it starts getting in the colder months i let my deuce warm up for maybe a minute. Then go and ride easy till she warms up.

The only reason you should let a motor idle to warm up is for safety reasons like when you have a carberator and it has the possibility to stall in a intersection.

I took a mechanics class and my teacher told me as long as the engine runs fine cold it is better to warm it up quickly by driving it.

FWIW, there's a reason race cars run a few warm up laps. Getting all over the throttle with thick oil in the tank is a good way to trash an engine early. Ride easy for the first 10 miles in the summer and the first 20 in the winter. That's what my oil temp. guage tells me. It is rocket science but everyone on this forum is a certified RS...well some.....
