So with an oil temp guage, what temp with dino oil is cause for concern (pulling over shutting her down)?
With normal dino oils temps above 225 start to reducetheadditives in the oils abilitytodo there job properly over time. At 250 its long term ability to clean, cool, and lube the enginegoes to hell in a handbasket. Tempsabove 250 mean that the additives have about given up the ghost and its time for anoil change, NOW.
Remember that oilin the tank that measures over 250 means its a good deal hotter in the engine itself. Run an engine toolong at those kind of tempsand its a fair bet thatsome expensive things in the engine maystart togo bye-bye on you. Because theoil has stopped doing its job properly.

If you read the owners manual it will tell you the engine temperature setpoints...
It changes idle with certain setpoints and if you get the temperature guage you can actually notice it happening.

I don't think there's anything "wrong" with your bike. Keep in mind that it is an "air-cooled engine." If you're not moving (like in heavy traffic), it's not getting cooled. I'd be shocked if it didn't start to overheat in those situations. I think your idea of an oil cooler is a good one considering where you live, but again, it won't help if you're standing still. The same goes for synthetic oil. Great idea and it will postpone damage, but it's not going to keep your air-cooled engine from overheating if you're stopped in traffic for too long in 88 degree temperatures. The only thing that would help in that situation is a RADIATOR!

Sheesh, Where do you live?? It's the middle of winter?? Your still going through the breakin period so that could be a factor...I can only speak for the TC88 and I have had no heat issues except my thighs in the summer in stop n go traffic....

Bill:
I'm not sure if your making a statement or asking a question.
I have a TC88 (actually 95" now) as well as my 07. I've had my 07 since August and it is broken in. The 07's run hotter than previous years. In mid Sept. I went to Stage 1 w/dyno. Also synthetic oils.
No more serious heat issues.
