I believe Jim bo is mistaken that he has Big Shots. Them look like Monster Rounds to me and they already have the fiberglass off!

Seriously though...I've always left the tape on.

As for the Big Shots, I have those on my FLHXSE2 and love them but I didn't know the baffles were removable. How did the sound change with the glass off?

Just removed my quiet baffles to install hardcore baffles. The original V&H quiet baffles had transparent tape around the fiberglass, which was still in pretty good shape after doing 50000miles with them. So I would keep the tape on.

Stock they were too quiet, glass off they sounded proper and not too loud.

Put the quiet baffles in mine, left the tape on! The quiet baffles didn't make it much quieter, but at least I don't get complaints from my neighbours now!

The tape is a super high temp. Mylar tape and is made to withstand the high temp. of the exhaust. It is suppose to be left on. If, after many years you find you have to replace the glass pack material, you can remove the tape and use some fine stainless steel tie wire in a wide gaped spiral wrap to secure the glass pack into place.

Leave it ON....

On my Rush baffles with I put new packing on they Recommend tapping the whole area of the packing with just plain paper packaging tape..
The baffler doesn't get hot enough to burn off the tape,, Least mine don't/doesn't.

The old tape was still there on the old burnt packing that I replaced with 36k on them.

Also it makes it a lot easier to install them.

It won't

How did the Hard Kore baffles work out for you? What did they do to the sound? Did you install them into the V&H Quiet Baffles? I have a set of Hard Kore baffles sitting in my garage right now and am about to do just that.

Guess it wasn't such a bad question after all...
