what is the highest lift cam you can run under stock valve covers
i was looking at the woods tw-222. was wondering how big of cam lift can you get away with before rocker to valve cover clearance becomes an issue? thanks for the info!
yeah kind of shopping around for cams. looking for something that has good low and midrange power. i don't see the upper rpm band unless i'm passing on the highway. there is a lot to choose from.

Check out Fueling Reaper 574's, They come on around 15-1800 and are still pulling up to 5800 as I recall. Call the guys there and they will to walk you through all the options.
Spring lift will limit total valve lift; '99-'04 max lift was .510". Beehive springs introduced in '05 and max lift increased to .570". '07 and up springs will accomodate .600" lift. However, that has nothing to do with the rocker box clearance. If running roller rockers, you may need to clear the webbing at say .570" lift; they need more operating clearance.
The 222 is "bolt-in" cam; that term usually means what it says and that it will work with no other modifications.

I will say I didn't spare anything on my build using the Reaper 574 cams. Head were over $1000 with double beehive springs good for .630 or so lift, 10 over valves, ported, polished, opened up and flow tested. Pistons are 10.25 to 1 domed, Fueling race roller rockers, .30 over push rod and a few other things.
Heads were done by a guy out of Texas that was building and racing HD Drag bikes so I figured he knew what he was doing.
