+1 on the above, I have a 2006 and it does it only when hot and overfilled.

 

I almost always fill up while riding, hardly ever on the way home to put her away.. so I've never noticed or had any leaks from overfill and I usually fill almost to the top every time.

I've never had mine leak gas at all, at any time, under any weather, and I'm ALWAYS filling that thing up to the brim. Gotta get my 4 gallons worth before hitting reserve :-)
