Default 2008 nighttrain fuel gauge

Make a long story short I let a freind ride my nighttrain . He went to put fuel in it and pulled the fuel gauge off with a twist and a tug. Dumb a--
I went over to him and ask what he had done, thats when he told me.
At that point I checked it and the gauge is still working but Im worred about the gauge comming back out it pops off easy now rubber and whole thing comes out, Leaks and fumes. Whats the fix for this. ! I do know is not to let people ride my bike again.

Leaks and fumes? Did they change something on the '08's? My fuel gauge is just a cap that snaps into a recess in the tank, no access to fuel. I've taken mine out a number of times, just snaps back in.

Did that the first day I got my bike. I scratches the plastic lens. No biggie. There is no direct contact with fuel behind the gauge.

Same type on the 06, I popped it out trying to figure out a way to take it apart and dry up the condensation in the gage, there is absolutely no contact with fuel behind the gage

P.S. I almost got rid of condensation by stuffing one of those little silica packets that come in a bottle of pills in that little hole in the back of the gauge...
