Since realizing that most, if not all, bolts and nuts are SAE, I'm having a easier time with repairs and mod installs. Just had to buy a **** load of new tools tho

Idk about u but don't have room to keep my tools near my bike and I dislike having to walk back an forth to the box so I throw a tape on any bolt I'm unsure of
It can be especially a pain when dealing with mixed metric and SAE
So I like to measure what I'm unsure of and only make 1 trip to the tool crib lol

Well, when I'm working on my bike, that's what I do, but, apparently that isn't working for the OP. Also, it's hard to find the wrench that fits if you have metric wrenches and most Harley fasteners are SAE.

Actually, I've been wrenching on my bike for so long that I have most of the common fasteners and the wrenches I need for them committed to memory.

Default Thread standard used by Harley

I just purchased a 1963 Harley fl and was told that the thread used are NS and not UNC . Would this be correct?

If you buy a thread gauge (very cheap) and a micrometer you can figure out any nut or bolt you might find!

Measure the threat pitch, the length, diameter and head size, then cross reference it on a web bolt chart and you will know for sure!

1/4 is the diameter in inch
20 is number of threads per inch
1.25 is length of screw in inch

Using this Bolt Head/Wrench Size Table (source: K-T Bolt) you will be able to figure out what size wrench you need, in this case according to the table 7/16 or 3/8.

H-D uses metric bolts and nuts on their models too.

Here's a link where you can find some info on metric sizes.

Any idea what parts catalog/hardware listing this is? I checked HD and they offer a free parts catalog but didn't find any hardware listing?

Any digital and hard copy of MoCo's parts catalogs do have hardware listings.

Ah I see it now, any idea where I can locate a hardware listing for add on parts? like windshields?

https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/e...eld/p/57400176

For instance this part number is 10200218 but the thread and pitch aren't available on parts catalog?

You could try to enter the p/n in the searchbox at MoCo's Service Information Portal to find out what documentation is available for this p/n and check out the documents shown

In this case only the p/n is shown and not the specs....

In the 70‘s harley lifter stands had 1/4 24 treads per inch bolts,as far as I know that was the only use for them ,so get them from hd and bite the bullet
