I had the same problem with my apes and fairing. I put on a set of BR Customs sweeping beaters bent bars before I bought my Reckless fairing. So when I put the fairing on it pushed the bars to close to me and I hated how cramp it made me feel. I took the fairing brackets off and had a set made that put the fairing further out. I drilled the new holes a little lower. A little lower because I had a big gap between the top of the headlight and the fairing. After I put the new brackets on, it made it possible to push my bars forward. That made a world of difference in comfort and IMO looks. If I had to do it all over again I would of had BR Customs make my bars wider in the middle to clear the radio and a more profound bend. That would of solved the problem. Here's how it came out.

I've looked into this and it's alot of work unless you buy bagger bars with the bend, but take the fairing off and it looks stupid.
A possibility I was looking at was fabbing the brackets to push the fairing forward just a smidge so my bars can be straight up and clear the short windshield, then have the radio pocket that protrudes cut and remolded so my bars would fit into it.

My conclusion.... I'm gonna do sounds minus the fairing. Speaker buckets on the crash bar

Apes and Bats rock. I do have to say that is is extremely common down here, but I still like it.

Just have to make sure to measure everything and make sure the bars won't block the reasons that you have the bat. (stereo and electronics.)

What about the Carlini Menace Apes? Would those clear? They have a pretty serious bend but look like they might look alright with the fairing off as well?

I have just regular apes.. Bikers Choise brand iirc and no problems.. I couldn't push them straight up but I wanted to lean back in my backrest..
