I also have the sears version. My heritage has to be so far back to be balanced that the front platform foot is right at the point where the front downtube turns horizontal. Not much room for error. Stable if you set it just right.

If you really plan on using it to work on the bike and be safe dont skimp on your jack , there is a huge difference in the stability between the lower priced lifts from Sears, HF etc and the quality lifts from Pitbull , J& S etc. there is a reason that they are $ 350 -450 and if you have ever had your 700 -900 lb bike up on one you would see the difference.

Mine's the opposite, it has to be to the very rear of the frame to balance. Once in the air I strap it down solid!!!

I have the Sears version...didn't have the cash for a nice one or a platform...use it for maintenance, ape hangers, swapped tins and have had no issues.

I've got the Harbor Freight cheapo, think I paid about $50 for it. Stored my bike up in the air all last winter and it didn't drop at all. Only problem, which I think is inherrent to all, especially if your bike is lowered, is that they won't slide under your bike. I drive mine up on a 2 x 4 to get the clearance I need.

Tucked away for the winter on my $50 Harbor Freight lift.

I have the J & S. It is rock solid without straps. I would agree with what others are saying: dont go for cheap on a jack.

You want one like the J&S because it doesn't get in your way quite as much. I have one that is a smaller scissor jack that doesn't get in the way at all unless you are replacing the rear shocks that are under the bike. It doesn't lift as high as the J&S but it is totally out of the way. It supports the bike even less than the J&S but has never caused me any concern.

I have a similar jack, not from amazon, but looks exactly like that only gray. Had it for 6 years so far, and no complaints. No issue fitting it under the bike, and I'm lowered 2" front and rear. Have to hold the bike vertical to roll it under, but it just fits. No issues with stability either, and the lock works pretty good. Overall a decent jack for the price. Mine was a gift, I might have gone a bit higher quality if I had picked it out, but perfectly sufficient for my needs.
