Default Do pulleybolts need replacing when changed?

Are the pulley bolts like the rotor bolts where it's recommended you change them if you ever remove them instead of reusing them?

Yes, they are a one time use and should not be re-tourqed. Also, when you replace them its a good idea to mark them with a permenant marker so you know they haven't backed out at all and use a grade 8 bolt.

There is a ton of talk on this - here's a start - https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...ley-bolts.html

This is a wise idea. If you have ever had a bolt or 5 back out on you on the road you will do the same. Use red loctite on the pulley bolts. Here are torque specs for wheel stuff.

5/16-18 front rotor bolts 16-18 ft. lbs. 3/8-16 rear rotor bolts 23-27 ft. lbs. 7/16-14 pulley/sprocket bolts 65-70 ft. lbs. Hub assembly bolts 75-80 ft. lbs

I'll have to add the axle bolts to this as well. Back in a minute.

Happened to me before - I felt it pulled over tightened them (was only 5 miles from home) Got home parked it - replaced them all new grade 8 bolts and used red loctite. Then marked them.

Yep as stated they are one time use only. They are cheap anyway why take the risk of having one or more shear off while riding down the road?

It just seems like a stupid costs as I'm thinking they're going to have to be replaced every time I change the tire. Such is life.

The aluminum wheel hub is the weak point.....grade 8 bolts will have a hell of a time beings stretched before you pull the threads out on the wheel?
