Default Needs some advice from owners that have just done cams on a Deluxe 2012, 103ci

Hi I am confused on which cams to go with ??
I have a Deluxe 2012 with S&S slip-ons and SE stage 1 upgrade.
I am looking for torque and hp increases in the 2000 to 5000 RPM range don’t tend to ride above speed limit, more looking for overtaking and 2 up power with sharp throttle performance thru the gears. I am not planning any further engine mods.
So you guys that have just done your cam please advice on what worked for you?? Could also be talked into V&H stagged big shots??? Instead of the S&S sip-ons but been told going V&H I would lose power…

So Far my thinking is S&S 583 EASY START ???

Have U looked at the -Dyno for Softails- thread..

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...-softails.html

I started it Yrs ago just for question like Urs.. In the link above U can see the sheets and where the tq is to help U deciede what to get.

the 103 will benefit just like the 96'er and 88's do and U can use the same grind of cams, of course it has to be made for Ur motor.. the 88's and 96er's have diff bearing sizes

Son put in the S&S 551's last yr in his 10 St Glide 96''er and loves them.

One thing I don't know about the 583 lift is how close they will be with the pistons.
The easy start will help on starting by keep the compression down.

From S&S wed site.
583: Optimized for use in the Softail®/Dyna® lines, this cam makes horsepower and torque that you can feel all the way through the rpm range, making the most power right where you need it:1500–5000rpm

Also here is a link that show most cams and gives their specs.
For Low- Mid TQ U should look at cams that has an Intake closing less than 36* if Ur not doing Heads and intake.
