Thanks for all the info. So the consensus is, yes, I will get scratches from the pillion without that film if I do two up a lot and/or take of the seat often. I've got a fender bib coming in the mail, so that should help the fender, and I won't be doing two up for quite some time. Once I do two up again I'll try the felt and 3M adhesive, or try to find that film again. In the mean time, I'm keeping a solo seat on so I shouldn't have any problems.

I just had my bike painted and didn't want to scratch my pretty new paint job when my girfriend wanted ride so i beat my head against the wall trying to figure out a way to avoid scratching my rear fender. I came up with using the wide blue painters tape and taped it directly to the fender so there was no rubbing from the seat moving and when you ride solo you just peel it right off and there are absolutely no marring or scratching! The tape is designed to not pull any paint off when you remove it and i have been doing this for a while now and it works great! I wouldn't use any other tape because they are meant to STICK!

I put two layers of Costco's clear cling wrap under my felt covered C&C Sport Tour when we ride two up and it does a great job of eliminating marring from friction and keeps grime from getting between the saddle and fender.

You can sometimes see an edge of the cling wrap peeking out from under the saddle is you look closely, but this ain't no show bike.

U might want to get a fender bid for solo riding. lots do.

I took the stock rear seat and made it into a backrest/rear fender cover after I bought the touring pillion seat..
It gives me a lot of back support and I don't feel like I am sliding off the seat when I get on it vs just a fender bib..

.
I did this...left the plastic cover on the rear fender and purchased a Mustang bib for about $34.00...it completely covers the plastic and IF I decide to ride two up, I don't worry about scratching the paint.

Remove the plastic, and when you wanna go with the pillion again, just buy a replacement plastic P/N 59567-00C. $13.50.
