OK, this tank exchange process is a gift that just keeps on giving (or taking)...

Thought I had the problem solved by buying the entire fuel pump/filter/sending unit from a 2004 Heritage. Now I find that the multi-plug on my 2007 Heritage has 4 pins/wires. The connector on the top plate of the 2004 unit has only 3, and won't connect to the 2007 multi-plug. Has anyone been through this problem before? Could a multi-plug from a 2004 be wired in somehow?

Also, I can't seem to find a suitable plug for the extra hole in the bottom of the new fuel tank. Anyone know what might work, or know what the threads are in that extra hole? Maybe an oil drain plug?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

When you go to Ronnie's HD site, check the 2002 Heritage Fuel Injection, Fuel tank assembly, Item 1: Plug, O-Ring Drain is the one you want. (to get the number put in shopping basket and go to check-out)

Part number for that plug is 758, cost about $4

Ronnie's parts finder:
http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.....asp?make=hdmc

As for the wiring ... guess you will need to find an 2004 wiring schematic.

I might have one for the 2007 models (not sure) ... will have a look to see if I can find it.

Going to take another stab at seeing if anyone has a solution for this. I am putting a fuel tank from a 2004 Heritage on a 2007. The connector on the top plate of the 2004 fuel tank is rounder and has only three pins. The plug from the 2007 that goes into this connector is flatter and has 4 wires/pins. Got the parts coming to change the 4-pin plug to a 3-pin; but I don't know which of the 4 wires to connect to the 3-pin plug or what I may be losing here.

Any electrical wizards out there that can give me some insight?

My 1st thought also was carb. vs EFI but I'm not 100% sure. Not to highjack your thread but I bought a tank for my bike for a new paint scheme. I didn't want to use/ruin my stock tins. I am pretty sure I have changed my mind now on the paint so I may have a tank for sell myself. It's off of a 2006 EFI Deluxe. Good luck and I would like to know how this turned out for you and what you had to do to make it right and work.

Thanks. Both fuel pump/sending unit assemblies - the 04 and the 07 - are from fuel injected bikes. Just that the plugs on the top plates are slightly different, and I'm trying to figure out why. I'll post it when I find out!

Sorry that I can't help... but... I gotta ask.

Why replace your white paint set with another white paint set?

Unless... something bad happened to the original set.

ETA: For what it's worth... I just bought a second set of tins for my '05 for a l little project I'm thinking of doing... and was told by several people (and found in the research that I did) that an 07+ tank would not fit my '05.

Good question! The reason is that the bike was in a minor accident - a lay-down - before I got it. Matter of fact, that's how I was able to afford it. When it went down, the rear turn signal bar must have caught the ground and gave the rear fender a pretty good twist, so it was ugly. The front fender also had a dent in it, probably from some other event. I really like the white pearl finish, and I was glad to find another pearl white paint set in new condition for what I felt was a bargain price. I have tried to keep that in mind as I've been going through these issues. I think I'll have it whipped if I can just figure out which of the four wires from the 2007 ain't gonna connect to anything on the 2004 fuel tank.

My 04 has the double opening. The second is for the carb model. It has a large cap with a hex on it screwed up in it. (fancy pipe plug.) Before the FI's came in there was one and it did not have the large opening in top for fuel pump. Obvious when carb option stopped there are back to one. The fuel gage is also different in the FI and Carb model for 04. Guess in the carb it's just a gage and on the FI it is also a sending unit to ECM to pop Low Fuel light on. I will post a picture of the cap if you want. Let me know what you need or want and I will study my Diagnositic and wire dirgrams how it all interacts on my bike.

Hey, thanks. What I need to know is how to connect the 4 wires from the 2007 wiring harness plug going to the fuel pump/sender unit to the 3 pins/wires on the 2004 top plate connector. Got the 04 plug coming, just don't know for sure what to do with it when I get it... how to connect the 4-wires to 3 pins. Any help would be super.
