I got a wheel doc for my trip to California. I settle down the back of the bike with two ratchet straps, off of those eye bolts. When I am done, I screw them out, and put the regular bolts back in.

[QUOTE=Ludwig von Buzzthoven;15614152]Bought my first-ever bike, a '15 48, two years ago, and traded it a couple of weeks ago for this baby. (I had been lusting over the Slims ever since I bought the 48).

Very nice. Color works.

Looks Nice!

Thanks for the pix.
I just bought a used set of heritage fenders, and was thinking about whether to keep the slim struts or pay the extra $200~ for heritage struts.

I found the chrome outer struts and black steel inner support struts on Craigslist, but I'm in So Cal. (land of plenty). You might find the Heritage/ Deluxe/ Fatboy struts used on ebay. Struts for above softail models @ 2006 or later should bolt right on. Slim struts are lower and will not fit Heritage fender, you will be drilling new holes, etc.

I put a Fatboy rear fender on my Slim and can easily swap the original fender back in since I kept the Slim struts on the stock fender.

Hey guys, new member here and I have loved reading through this thread. I am looking at getting a slim next spring and I was wondering if anyone had tried putting the batwing on a bike with mini apes? I do a little distance riding and I love the look of the apes, but it would be nice to have a quick release faring for some of the distance stuff.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info and pic. Great looking bike!

The fenders I got are actually 2002 black heritage fenders. It came with everything including the outer struts. Any idea how it will fit if I just purchase the inner struts?

Also have to decide on paint. I think the black fenders match your red tank really well. My bike is charcoal grey. May just keep them black and see how it looks, but a charcoal heritage/slim will be something different...

I used this parts finder:

http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.....asp?make=hdmc

I only know 2006 and later frames. if you look in the finder linked above, you will see the inner strut support "horns" WELDED to the 2002 Heritage frame. (2006+ they are removable). I don't know if 2006 and later strut covers will fit the fender holes on your 2002 heritage rear, and bolt on the Slim frame. I hope someone will chime in.

I think the hole for the ECM computer is different on a 2002, but that might be an easier fix. (and hidden under the seat).

I think you should at least try the Black fender/ Grey tank combination, might be very cool. I planned to have my tank pin striped (Heritage style) to match the fenders, but I have put my Slim bobber fenders back once for fun, then no tank stripes look better...

Good luck, let us know how it goes.
