I have an 07...to me it was a no brained. The 07 has the 6 speed, the 96 motor, the hydraulic tensioners, etc etc. Be prepared however to find that the 07 is a little bit of a bastard year for parts. A lot of the hd manual says 00-06 or 08 later. The wheel offset is easily corrected with a set of 08 later lowers and a 08 fatboy front wheel.

For me...the fatboy should be fat....hence the necessity for a 200 rear. Now I just need to make mine low.

I'd go with the newer and/or less miles.

But then again, i enjoy making the bike my own, so i always opt for the most stock bike out there. Blank canvas...

Wouldn't trade my 06 for anything, but in your situation I'd opt for the 07 for the six speed and bigger motor. You'll end up changing, errr customizing, everything anyway

Default newer Fat Bay

09 FatBoy w/96 motor, 6 speed, 200 phat tire! I went from a 04 Night Train to a better ride IMHO. 200 tire not just for looks, adds some stability, comfort & can still work the curves. The 6th gear & 60mph make good companions! 96 motor is also a good start towards the 103 upgrade. Always thinking/moving forward>>>>

I just bought a 2001 Fatboy with 26k miles on it. Even though I downsized the engine (went from 2010 Street Bob w 6 gear 96cu) I love the 88B on my bike - it has enough power and doesn't get as hot as the 96 did....
Also.. I am very much into fat tires and all that, but I think the stock ones don't look bad. I'd be perfectly happy with upgrading to 160s and WWW

I like the idea of the 96" 6 speed on the '07, but IMHO I think the '04 is a better looking bike..They ruined the Fatboy when they went to the 200 rear tire, with that shortened, bloated, out-of-proportion looking rear fender & the 17 in front.

Here's my '04 Fatboy. Look how good & sexy that rear fender & smaller tire looks. Kinda like a chick with a hot bod, VS a fatass trailer park porker!

Course, I wouldn't mind havin' the 96" & 6 speed tranny, either. Just can't get past that obese fender.
You sir are a true poet. You really know how to paint a picture.
