Default Annoying Speedo problem - any ideas ?

Hey Guys,

I'm having a problem with my speedo, and wondering if anyone has seen the
same issue. My speedo only works when the bike has run for a while. When
I first start out, it won't read speed or display odometer. Then, as I'm riding,
it begins to come to life. It will go off an on for a bit, and then eventually work
okay. I've checked for bad wires. The PO changed the speed sensor, and had no change. My dash light is out for the right turn signal, but I don't think a bad bulb
on that would cause this issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance !

What year bike do you have? That avatar pic is too small to identify.

Personally I'd try changing the speedo sensor again just to rule that out. They run about $50.00 from HD. I've had to replace 4 of them on my 97. I had one that went bad in just a month. If that doesn't correct it you probably need to replace the speedo itself. Some speedos do go bad as well. However before changing any of the parts, you should open the couplings and clean the contacts the best you can with a Q-Tip & Rubbing Alcohol. The contacts can corrode and that's a possibility as well. There's really nothing more to it than the Sensor, Speedo & elec contacts.

Best of luck with that.

It turned out to be the voltage regulator and a poor ground.
everything's working good now.
Thanks for the tips !
