Question on K&N air filter
I just rec'd a new K&N air filter for my 2011 Heritage. {HD-1499} I unpackaged it to install and it is dry. Is this the way it is supposed to be installed? Does it have to be preoiled? or is that only when you clean/service it? If anyone has installed a new K&N filter let me know, thanks.

It is a pink{very light red} does not feel or smell oily, that's why I was concerned. I read the install instructions and no mention of having to oil. I wanted to install on saturday, but can't contact K&N til next week. From the sound of it, I should be ok to run it as is?

Sorry for the late reply; I'm at Black Hills Harley-Davidson in Rapid City for Sturgis and reception is not that good
Anyways, to answer your question (which it looks like it already has), yes the filter is oiled and it should not feel oily; it can, but with how we oil them at the factory, it should not have excess oil on the outside of the screen.
The filter media is white and the oil is what makes it red. So as long as the media is redish-pink in color; you are good to go. As a side note, that filter does not come un-oiled.
