Servicing...

Warranties cannot require the service to be done by the dealer, as long as the service gets done. If that was the case, dealers would charge twice what they do if they knew they had ya by the neck! Just keep all your receipts and log what the mileage is for each service. Pick up a service manual, it will outline specifically what needs done, and precisely how to do it. And yes, the going rate for 1k, 10k, 20k etc service is 350-400 and the 5k, 15k, 25k services run about 250 in my area.

Just do it yourself, save the receipts and keep a log with mileage and date, what was done. Then at least you know it was done right. I haven't had a stealership touch any of my bikes in the past 20 years. Seemed like every time it went in with one problem it would come back with 2 new problems.
You will save a fortune and with the money you save you can use better fluids than HD will use.

This is handy as I was gonna start a thread along the lines of this one.
I bought the extended maintenance package when I bought my bike.
Seeing the prices of the services & taking into account how much I ride it seemed like a good deal.
Paid like 485 for it (I think)
Basically for 2 years or 20000 miles I get all services done for that one payment.
I assumed this price included all the service checks ect listed in the owners manuel.
Buyer be ware it doesnt, last service all they did was change the fluids test ride it and kicked her out the door to the tune of 183 bucks according to the receipt.
Mean time they told me I needed a new back tire & a brake job.
The tire maybee I can still get about 2000 miles out of it as for the brake pad I was skeptical.
Sure enough while at my local repair dudes shop sizing up some apes, I asked about the brake pad.
He asked how many miles on it & looked real quick and just gave me a disgusted look.
Moral of the story is.......
F**k the stealership.
My local repair dude does full fluid changes for 75 bucks.
Never again will I shop at the stealership as they are theives.

My scheduled service is totally free of charge for as long as I own the bike, its what they do for you when you purchase a new bike from them. The only cost is upgrading to synthetic oil, it is $29 every fluid change. Btw they dont add xtra cost when you buy there bikes, I searched before I bought and they were the best deal on new plus gave me $1G more than others would on my trade in.

Since then I've done all cept the tires and brakes,,, which I now have a local Indy to do...
Tires $60 on the bike. $120 for both
tires $25 if rolled in. each
Brakes $17.50 per set if done at tire change.
